Carmen Miranda 'Weekend in Havana' Hat

This hat is an interpretation of the one Carmen Miranda wore in 'Weekend in Havana'.  I made it using a Sinamay base, given a basket like effect, and then adding sinamay leave, fake flowers, beads strung on wire and butterflies to the hat.  The butterflies I made using scrap fabric from the skirt, trapping it between two layers of interfacing and then cutting it out and attaching it to clear wire.  This linked it to the skirt, whilst creating an interesting texture, as well as being more sustainable.  I added a large bow to the back, made with fabric and interfacing to help stiffen it.  I created a gold, satin headband to represent the turban with an elasticated front to help cinch the fabric.  There is a piece of elastic to make the hat wearable.
